Cyber attacks on critical infrastructure are increasing with increasing sophistication in cyber warfare. Industrial Control Systems (ICS) of such critical infrastructures are being targeted to penetrate into OT environments. The talk introduces vulnerabilities in ICS-SCADA systems used in critical infrastructures. It will also cover the difference in approaches adopted for securing IT & OT environments.
Faruk Kazi received his Ph.D. degree from Systems & Control Engineering of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, in 2009. He is currently a Professor and Dean of Research & Development at VJTI, Mumbai, India.
He works in the domain of cyber-physical systems and critical infrastructure security. His research interests include SCADA security, Industrial Control System (ICS), and Operational Technology (OT) security. He is working as Chair of WG-3 (Digital Architecture and Cyber Security) of India Smart Grid Forum (ISGF), PPP initiative of Ministry of Power, Government of India. Currently, he is Education Chair for Cybersecurity & ISA/IEC 62443 of ISA District 14 (Asia-Pacific Region). He also works as a consultant with Tata Consulting Engineers (TCE) for Smart Grid projects.
He was invited as a visiting research scholar at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, EPFL, Switzerland, and Tufts University, Boston, USA. He has delivered invited talks and presented his research work at MIT USA, SUPELEC, CNRS, Paris (France), Budapest (Hungary), Florence (Italy) and Japan. He has published more than 90 research papers in various international journals & conferences.
He has received project funding from ISRO, BARC, DRDO, and DST for his various research projects. He has also secured project funding and in-kind support from industries like Siemens, Emerson, L &T (Electrical & Automation), L & T Infotech and CISCO for the test-bed on the security of cyber-physical systems.
