Building Security Applications On Smart Cards

Abstract :

Smart Cards are tiny computers that we use, often unknowingly, in various applications ranging from banking/payment cards, as SIM in our phones, as access cards to establish our identity for gaining entry into buildings/networks, as loyalty/ health cards, and in e-Wallets or e-Passports. Smart cards offer protection to secret keys and sensitive applications; it contains even in full adversarial control. The JavaCard multi-application platform has been deployed to over 20 billion smart cards. However, developing applications for smart cards with JavaCard technology is significantly different from developing normal Java programs. So, how about taking a dive to build, burn and run security applications on smart cards?

Learn to write applications for smart cards with the JavaCard Technology. Use the JavaCard development kit to write real-world applications and go through all the steps that lead to the final mask (burning binary into the card). Install your application on a real smart card provided during the workshop and interact with it through your laptop. Learn to build authenticated encryption over JavaCard. Also, gain insight on securing IoTs using JavaCards.
